Dear Calmer,

Like many of you, I’ve struggled with managing my mental health. Growing up, I faced significant trauma and lacked the tools to cope. As an adult, I’m working through that trauma while raising my autistic son as a single mom, juggling multiple jobs.

In my search for stability, I tried talking to friends, changing careers, drinking daily, and shopping excessively, but nothing alleviated the emotional roller coaster I was on. I experienced bouts of depression and unsettling thoughts about my life and identity. I was exhausted by the ups and downs and longed for a steady stream of peace.

That’s when meditation found me. I fell in love with the practice, which has taught me to let go of things beyond my control. I’ve accepted that I won’t always feel balanced, but those moments of imbalance are becoming shorter. I’ve learned to recognize my triggers, and I encourage you to do the same. I’m here to support you in expressing your feelings and offer tools to help you find your own stream of peace through one-on-one mindfulness meditation coaching or my self-empowerment book, You vs. You. As a mental health professional, there’s an assumption that I have it all together. However, we all go through tough times, regardless of our professions. This collection was inspired by the vulnerability I’ve allowed myself to express during those down moments. When someone asks how I’m doing, I sometimes respond honestly: “I’m not okay.” That’s an important start! Let’s normalize telling our truths and committing to the work that leads us to a place of peace.
